What separates superstar athletes from average athletes? Here are some hints. It has nothing to do with superior athleticism, or amount of practice time, or dedication to the sport. In this article is an introduction to the secret great athletes possess and how it can be made available to any student athlete. With this knowledge an athlete’s game can be taken to a much higher level.
Without citing names, recently in professional sports, there were a number of lottery draft picks who are now considered major busts. They had all of the qualities athletically to succeed, but didn’t. Their stock began to plummet during the pre-draft period when red flags started surfacing about them. There is one, however, that stands out above the others; it is a mental flaw – something that helped to sideline the athletes’ dreams of being perhaps the next marquee superstar and Sports Center “Human Highlight Reel”. This is an unfortunate and all too common fate for many young aspiring professional athletes, and it usually occurs very early in their careers. There are a lot of issues that confront American children in today’s day and age, but one of the most serious is competitive sports. While sports are meant to be an enjoyable part of childhood, increasingly kids are being required to do more to play. Children who are pushed to the edge of what they are physically capable of often are at risk of becoming burned out with the sport and quitting early. However, a more dangerous consequence could be actually physical damage. Kids even in high school in most cases are still growing and developing. Sports can cause huge amounts of strain to be put on the body and in some cases it can be too much for kids. It seems that seasons for sports are becoming longer every year, and the kids who are playing seem to be getting younger also. At a young age sports are meant to be played for enjoyment not to be competitive. Kids playing and practicing competitively for sports too early in their lives can cause serious damage in the future.
